These fun NYC inspired candles are available at Saks Fifth Avenue's nationwide, and are available online at www.bondno9.com. The labels are designed to look like the old NYC subway tokens.
No One, But No One, Holds a Candle to New York.
This is One Town That’s Perfectly Capable of Holding its Own Candle.
True, ours is the City of Neon Lights (think Times Square … the Great White Way … the skyline at night)—and occasional electrical outages. But New York is also home to that torch-bearing beacon--the Statue of Liberty. She, so to speak, has set the precedent for Bond No. 9’s illuminating new New York-centric candle collection that stands way above the fray.
We know … we know: scented candles are mainstays these days—with good reason. They make everyone in their ambit look and feel more beautiful. (And since when have Yorkers ever been able to get enough of a good thing?) Still, whoever thought that urbane Bond No. 9, located in the heart of NoHo, would take to melting wax? But, like just about anything else that comes out of New York, Bond No. 9 candles achieve a whole new and unique level of incandescence and warmth. Let’s count the ways.
1) Bond No. 9 candles come with a 16 – 20 percent perfume concentration. That’s about as high as candle fragrance can go. To make sure the scent doesn’t fade, a gilt metal cap is included, to be placed over the candle whenever it isn’t lit.
2) We use the best wax and the best wicks in the business, so our candles burn for a maximal 60 hours.
3) The gentle curve of our sturdy tinted glass containers, each displaying a stylized version of the late, lamented New York City subway token, recalls the vintage coffee mugs that were mainstays in New York’s hash houses before the era of Styrofoam cups.
Just as the Bond No. 9 liquid fragrance collection is about location, location, location, so is ambiance central to our candle line. Bond No. 9 candles summon up the essence of the city or a specific neighborhood, and transport you instantly to that locale—while you stay curled up in your Manhattan aerie. Or if (for whatever uncanny reason) you dwell outside the city limits, Bond No. 9 will deliver New York or parts thereof directly to you.
Part I of our candle introduction, to be introduced late November, features these five scents:
Eau de New York A her-his fragrance in a turquoise-tinted glass, bursting with breakfast-y citruses and other stimulants--gardenia, jasmine, basil. For when you want a roomful of the city’s non-stop energy.
Little Italy Another unisex scent, in an orange-tinted glass. Imagine the creamy flavor of a homemade gelato, dripping with mandarin, sweet tangerine, honeyed Clementine, and a hint of musk. For whenever you want to ad lib the Festival of San Gennaro at home.
Nuits de Noho A woman-only scent, in a midnight blue-tinted glass. This avant garde gourmand treat is concocted of citrussy bergamot, seductive jasmine, and a jolt of gin-like patchouli. For all those times when you miss the echoing nighttime clack of Manolo heels on the cobblestone streets of Downtown’s most sexily urbane enclave.
Chelsea Flowers For women only, in a pink-tinted glass. An insolently exuberant bouquet of peonies, tulips, hyacinth, magnolia, and rose. For when you can’t get to the Chelsea Market for fresh-wrapped flowers, followed by a stroll past the noirish Chelsea Hotel.
New Haarlem Androgyny in a purple glass. An intoxicating lavender-cedarwood-coffee- vanilla-patchouli brew, oozing chic brazenness. For when you take the A train in your dreams, heading for those legendary Deco supper clubs—Small’s Paradise, the Lenox Lounge, and the Cotton Club.
Madison Soiree Lush femininity in an antique golden-yellow glass with a gold token-embossed top. Take-no-prisoners jasmine, combined with lush gardenia and honeysuckle, captures the after-hours verve of the world’s grandest shopping street--when the world-class boutiques and the museums have closed for the day, and the local denizens step out from their side-street townhouses, pervading the air with unabashed elegance.
Park Avenue For women only, in pale pink with a golden lid. Well-coiffed uptown style—discreet but not overly sweet―is the message of this fresh bouquet of paperwhites, iris, rose, and chamomile. This is the flavor of Manhattan’s grandest boulevard, where the traffic thins out north of 57th Street and fortresslike apartment buildings, guarded by liveried doormen, line the street.
So New York A calorie-free his-hers chocolate-lover’s fantasy in (what else?) a dark-chocolate colored glass topped with a golden lid. For dessert, latte, and cappuccino fiends who crave the mingled dessert-café and coffee-bar scents of fruity bergamot and plum, bittersweet espresso, patchouli for sophisticated flavor, and a seductive warm milk accord. How authentically New York is that?
-
Chinatown A contemporary feminine scent in a reverse fuchsia/pearl white glass displaying a Ming-inspired plum-tree design. Like today’s emerging avant garde Chinatown, the fragrance is cross-cultural blend of patchouli-spiked peach blossom, peony, gardenia, tuberose, and cardamom.
Wall Street For savvy traders and investors of both genders, a lacquer-black glass covered with gold and silver New York tokens, topped with a golden lid, containing the world’s first financial fragrance. Capturing the brisk energy and derring do of New York’s financial district is a portfolio of fresh citruses, cucumber, and sea kale (a reminder of New York Harbor, hovering nearby), plus lavender to soothe, and vetiver, ambergris, and musk for a lingering yield.
The Scent of Peace Intended for men and women alike, The Scent of Peace (arguably the most beautifully civic-minded fragrance ever devised) starts off with sparkling, energizing grapefruit and black current notes, that soon are balanced by the sheer loveliness of lily of the valley, and by those mellowing base notes, cedarwood and musk. The flacon displays a dove in graceful flight. We see this emissary of peace soaring through our city, across the country, across the seas, bringing its message to the world. This is $85 and all the others are $75 to $78.
West Side Music to your nose- in candle form- West Side, our most melodious eau (rose…ylang ylang…peony), in a gold-capped pillar, ready (like music) to scent and seduce the air.
