A host of high-end restaurants in Hong Kong are teaming up with luxury brands to host spectacular events for consumers with a taste for the finer things. Here are a few notable collaborations:
Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s MO Bar has been collaborating with luxury brands for afternoon tea sets since a 2009 partnership with the fragrance brand Jo Malone. Since then, the restaurant has worked with Jimmy Choo, Apitiva, Ladurée, and Marc Jacobs, among others, and even hosted an afternoon tea with fashion designer Stella McCartney.
Richard Ekkebus, MO Bar’s culinary director, said that each afternoon tea explores a “unique angle” related to whatever brand the restaurant is hosting.
“If it is a fragrance, we inspire ourselves from the ingredients used in the fragrance, such as flowers, spices, citrus, and so on. When associating with a fashion brand, we seek inspiration from the brand’s image, a collection as well as personal preferences of the designer in terms of food and taste,” Ekkebus said.
Lanvin and Sevva
Each Saturday in December, the Hong Kong restaurant Sevva invited their customers to try their “Lanvin loves Sevva” afternoon tea set. The price was HK$680 for two and an extra HK$250 for a glass of Veuve Clicquot Rose NV Champagne. The tea featured an impressive array of hors d’oeuvres, including foie gras mousse and onion marmalade on a waffle, truffle scrambled egg on toast poilane, and snowflake coconut chiffon sponge cake for dessert. The round placements were designed by Lanvin designer Alber Ebaz, and vouchers exchangeable for a USB or mirror at the nearby Lanvin boutique were distributed among customers.
The tea was a great success, according to Bonnae Gokson, who owns Sevva.
“Our staff had to open service from the terrace and [both sides of the restaurant] to accommodate eager guests. Mostly right after lunch, we needed more time to clean up after the lunchtime service first before tea service, but the lines were so long that we needed more staff to manage the crowds,” Gokson told the South China Morning Post.
Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong and Graff Diamonds
The South China Morning Post calls this collaboration “one of the most premium partnerships in the city,” and it’s easy to see why. Afternoon tea is an appointment-only affair held in the The Ritz-Carlton Suite. The price is HK$10,880 for two and includes a half bottle of Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes 1998 and a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal Brut 2004, as well as delicious food and the opportunity to try on Graff Diamonds’s multimillion-dollar jewelry. For customers with lower budgets, there is also an HK$5,580 deal for two that includes a half bottle of Recioto Classico Brunelli 2009 and a bottle of Dom Pérignon Brut 2003.
The French Window and Elie Saab Parfum
Taking a cue from MO Bar, The French Window in IFC mall has collaborated with Elie Saab Parum and developed a set dinner to match their latest fragrance, a honey-rose perfume. Selected dishes include a rose-scented soufflé and honey-glazed monkfish filet with creamed spinach and crispy ham. Dinner costs HK$498 per person and includes perfume samples.
