I think it as beneficial to know which wineries to skip so that you have the time to enjoy the many "must visit" wineries in Virginia, and that is why I take the time to write this review. Of all the wineries that I have visited in Virginia, the Jefferson Winery is on the skip list.
As "The Luxury Guru" I have the trust of the UHNW and know what experience they are looking for and I often share global luxury travel opportunities. Each location has its unique aspects and often times they really cannot be compared to other destinations. Virginia is a very historical state with a tremendous amount of American history. The Jefferson winery is not really associated with Thomas Jefferson except he did broker the sale of the property that now houses the Jefferson winery. It is near Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's estate), the Monticello winery, Trump (former Kluge) winery and several others. Because of the name you want to like it, but it was a disappointment.
There was not one wine that I scored well and others in my party agreed. The tasting room and winery was not set up well. There is some rickety outdoor tables, no place inside to sit. Although being in a beautiful area, the vista from the winery was nothing impressive. Ironically their tasting fee is higher than the surrounding wineries, not that a $10 fee is prohibitive in anyway. The most drinkable of their wines was the Meritage 2010. They do not offer any type of food and place had a real "trailer park" feel to it. I would rate the Jefferson winery as a "must miss"....do not waste your time.
